If tooth loss has taken a toll on your confidence, a dental bridge can provide long-lasting relief from the issues associated with missing teeth. If you are missing one to three consecutively teeth, Dr. Barry Bessler can offer a customized dental solution that meets your dental, aesthetic, and budget needs. Dental bridges placed at our practice in Wayland, MA, can fill the gap in your smile to restores form and functionality. With our lifelike, durable traditional and implant-supported restorations, you can eat, speak, and smile with confidence.
What is a Dental Bridge?
Bridges are made of multiple crowns fused together to fill gaps in your smile. Traditional bridges will rely on surrounding, healthy teeth for support. If you are receiving an implant-supported restoration, dental implants will act as artificial tooth roots, providing superior support and preserving natural, surrounding teeth. Both traditional and implant retained bridges can restore your oral health, preventing other teeth from shifting out of place. However, implant-supported restorations are the only option that can prevent bone loss that occurs after tooth loss.
Planning Your Treatment
When you come into our dental office for your initial consultation, Dr. Bessler will conduct a thorough assessment and examination of your teeth and gums and take dental x-rays and images to determine the best restoration for your needs. Restorative work can only be performed on structurally sound teeth, so Dr. Bessler will first remove any decay and perform periodontal treatment, as needed. In cases where a damaged tooth cannot be saved, Dr. Bessler can extract the tooth and prep your jaw to receive a traditional or implant-supported dental bridge.
The Dental Bridge Procedure
The preparation and placement of a traditional dental bridge require at least two office visits. During the first appointment, the teeth to which the bridge will be attached to are prepared. Dr. Bessler will numb the area and remove a minimal amount of enamel to make room for the dental crown. After this, a precise dental impression of your bite will be taken, from which your unique dental bridge will be crafted.
It generally takes up to two weeks to create a dental bridge, after which, you will return for the second appointment. Dr. Bessler will attach the bridge securely and will make any necessary adjustments to ensure a comfortable bite and fit.

If you are receiving an implant-supported bridge, Dr. Bessler will work closely with your implant surgeon to oversee your procedure. During an outpatient surgery, you will receive two or more dental implant posts. Over the next three to six months, your jaw will fuse with your implants. Once you have fully healed, Dr. Bessler can place your custom restoration.
